My time at the ABC exposed me to all levels of the production pipeline, including planning, asset creation and management. The news broadcaster facilitates projects that could last anywhere from two hours to two months, while creating opportunities to utilise an array of different design techniques and mediums. My day-to-day responsibilities included:
Making fast-paced design decisions to produce broadcast quality content for local, national, and international news.
Engaging with report and investigation teams of varying sizes to communicate and agree on effective design results.
Working within a team of 6-12 designers daily, being able to facilitate project switches and load management on tight deadlines.
Managing said design team, assigning jobs and working with producers to fulfill daily visual needs effectively.
Working on long term projects (e.g. event titles/promotions/overall looks) from initial brainstorming to final asset creation.
The ABC was a challenging, engaging and fulfilling part of my design journey.
